Victoria Road — also known as Chigwell Construction Stadium for sponsorship purposes — is a sports stadium in Dagenham, Barking and Dagenham and the home ground of Dagenham & Redbridge Football Club.
The stadium has a maximum capacity of 6,078 spectators.
The ground has evolved significantly since its inception in 1917. Originally used by Sterling Works, it was fully enclosed in 1955 when Dagenham FC relocated there. This transition included pitch improvements and expanded terracing. The main stand, introduced in January 1956, initially accommodated 800 spectators.
The ground’s development continued with the installation of floodlights in 1957 and the setting of a record attendance of 7,200 in 1967. Major enhancements were made in 1990 with Redbridge Forest’s arrival, such as new stands and terracing, upgrading the stadium to Football Conference standards.
Following the 1992 merger of Redbridge Forest and Dagenham, the stadium saw continuous improvements, including a new perimeter wall, toilet block, and the replacement of the aged wooden stand in 2001 with a modern 800-seater, named the Carling Stand. These upgrades, alongside new turnstile blocks and advanced floodlighting, raised the capacity to 6,078 and ensured compliance with Football League standards.
Victoria Road has hosted various significant matches, including international fixtures. The addition of the SD Samuels Stand in 2009, with a 1,200 capacity and modern dressing rooms, and updated floodlights in 2012, affirmed the stadium’s status as a premier non-league football venue.
