Robbie ‘Simmo’ Simpson is a 39-year old football coach serving as the Manager of Chelmsford City Football Club since . He has previously been associated with Oldham Athletic during his career.
Robbie signed with City as a free agent in August 2019 after leaving MK Dons at the end of the 2018/19 season. His career in the Football League included playing for Cambridge United, Coventry City, Huddersfield Town, Exeter City, Brentford, Oldham Athletic, Leyton Orient, and a second spell at Cambridge United. He began his youth career at Norwich City, then moved to Cambridge City where he scored 33 goals in 118 appearances. After a season at Cambridge United, where he scored 17 goals in 33 games despite a knee injury, he spent two seasons with Coventry City.
Robbie’s later career included stints at various clubs, including MK Dons, where he played a role in their promotion to League One. His playing career was diverse, spanning several clubs and showcasing his ability to adapt and perform at different levels of English football.
In January 2020, he was appointed Interim Manager of City following Rod Stringer’s departure. After a successful start, including an unbeaten four-game streak and strong home performance, he was made permanent First Team Manager in March 2020.
