Jon Macken is a football coach serving as the First Team Manager of Stalybridge Celtic Football Club since . He has previously been associated with Bamber Bridge, Colne, Radcliffe and Witton Albion during his career.
Macken managed Witton Albion for two successful seasons and led Radcliffe to promotion from the Northern Premier League West. His non-league management experience also includes a stint at Colne, giving him considerable familiarity with the lower tiers of English football.
Macken’s professional career as a striker spans over 450 appearances for several clubs across all four divisions of the English Football League. He began his career at Manchester United, though he did not make a first-team appearance there. Moving to Preston North End in 1997, he scored 63 goals over 189 appearances. He later joined Manchester City, making 51 appearances, and went on to play for other clubs including Crystal Palace, Ipswich, Derby County, Barnsley, and Walsall.
Internationally, Macken represented England’s Under-20 team in 1997 and later played for the Republic of Ireland in 2004. After his league career, he transitioned into non-league football, featuring for Northwich Victoria, Stockport County, and Bamber Bridge before eventually turning his focus to management.
