Lowestoft Town Football Club, nicknamed “The Trawler Boys,” is a non-league football club based in Lowestoft, Suffolk.
Established in 1887, they currently compete in the Pitching In Southern Football League Premier Central, which is part of the seventh tier of English football. The team calls Crown Meadow their home ground.
Tracing its roots to 1884 as East Suffolk FC, the club became a dominant force in the Norfolk & Suffolk League after its formation in 1890. Notably, the club chose amateur status over professionalism in a 1904 FA Commission inquiry. The adoption of their blue and white colours in 1925 marked a significant identity milestone. As a founding member of the Eastern Counties League (ECL) in 1935, they experienced success, including an ECL title in 1977/78, but faced challenges in the 1980s with declining fortunes and infrastructure issues.
The 1990s and 2000s heralded a revival under Micky Chapman, transitioning from a celebrated player to a successful manager. This period was highlighted by multiple league titles, cup victories, and a poignant FA Carlsberg Vase final appearance at Wembley in 2008. Progress continued with promotions to the Ryman Premier Division, albeit interspersed with financial difficulties and relegation.
Looking forward, with former players Jamie Godbold and Andy Reynolds at the helm, there’s a blend of experience and promising youth, symbolising a resilient and optimistic future for Lowestoft Town FC.
