Exmouth Town Football Club, nicknamed “The Town,” is a non-league football club based in Exmouth, Devon.
Established in 1933, they currently compete in the Pitching In Southern Football League Division One South, which is part of the eighth tier of English football. The team calls Southern Road their home ground.
The club initially played at the Maer Cricket Field before relocating to Southern Road in 1964. The club enjoyed success in the Devon and Exeter League before joining the Western League in 1973. They ascended to the Premier Division in 1981-82, clinching the title in 1983-84 and 1985-86. Throughout the 1980s, Exmouth Town also secured the League Cup, twice finished as Premier Division runners-up, and won the Sportsman Trophy twice. Their cup triumphs included multiple wins in the Devon St Lukes Bowl and the Devon Premier Cup. In the 1984-85 FA Vase, they reached the semi-finals, narrowly losing to Fleetwood Town in front of over 5000 spectators.
The club installed floodlights and attracted significant crowds, including a record attendance of 2,395 for a match against Liverpool in 1987. However, the 1990s were less successful, culminating in relegation after the 1993-94 season. Though they briefly returned to the Premier Division in 2003-04, they withdrew from the Western League in 2005. Exmouth Town reformed in 2006 as Exmouth Town (2006) AFC and promptly moved up to the South West Peninsula League. They won the East Division in 2012-13 and achieved further success, including a runner-up finish in the 2013-14 Premier Division.
In recent years, Exmouth Town solidified their standing in the Premier Division, achieving notable league and cup performances. The 2018-19 season saw them promoted to the Toolstation Western League Premier Division. Despite disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they maintained a strong league presence. Under managers Kevin Hill and Andy Rawlings, the 2021-22 season was particularly successful, culminating in a historic promotion to the Southern League, having narrowly missed out on the league title to Tavistock on the final day of the season.
