Blyth Spartans AFC, nicknamed “The Spartans,” is a non-league football club based in Blyth, Northumberland.
Established in 1899, they currently compete in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division, which is part of the seventh tier of English football. The team calls Croft Park their home ground.
Blyth Spartans AFC, founded in 1899 by Fred Stoker, has a rich history in English football. Initially playing in the East Northumberland League, they joined the Northern Alliance, winning the league twice. They moved to the North Eastern League in 1913, achieving success in the 1936-37 season. A notable period was during WWI, where the Blyth Spartans Munitionettes, a women’s team, played undefeated.
Post-North Eastern League, Blyth joined the Northern League, winning ten championships over 29 years. Their most memorable FA Cup run was in 1977-78, reaching the fifth round. They later won the Northern Premier League under manager Harry Dunn in 2005-06. In the 2016-17 season, under Alun Armstrong, Blyth won the Northern Premier League title and the Northumberland Senior Cup, leading to promotion to the National League North.
