Welling United Football Club, nicknamed “The Wings,” is a non-league football club based in Welling, Bexley.
Established in 1963, they currently compete in the Vanarama National League South, which is part of the sixth tier of English football. The team calls Park View Road their home ground.
Founded in 1963, Welling United rapidly climbed from a youth team to the Football Conference, staying there for 14 years. Their journey included playing in the London Spartan League, Athenian League, and Southern League. The club moved to Park View Road after starting at Butterfly Lane, Eltham. Key achievements included winning the Spartan League and securing promotions to the Southern League Premier Division and then the Conference. Their time in the Conference was marked by four County cup wins and several FA Cup appearances, including a third-round match against Blackburn Rovers.
After relegation in 2000, the club’s performance varied. They initially struggled in the Conference South but stabilized under Adrian Pennock’s management, achieving notable cup success and league positions. Management changes brought mixed results, with Jamie Day’s tenure seeing financial challenges but also a return to the Conference Premier and a Conference South league record for consecutive wins. Recent years have seen fluctuations in league performance, management changes, and ownership transitions. The appointment of Danny Bloor as manager before the 2023/24 season brought new hope for the club’s future.
