Hemel Hempstead Town Football Club, nicknamed “The Tudors,” is a non-league football club based in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire.
Established in 1885, they currently compete in the Vanarama National League South, which is part of the sixth tier of English football. The team calls Vauxhall Road their home ground.
Hemel Hempstead Town FC, originally founded as Apsley End FC in 1885, has a rich history marked by mergers, relocations, and name changes. After various stints in the Spartan and Delphian Leagues, the club merged with Hemel Hempstead United in 1972, adopting the name Hemel Hempstead. The ensuing decades saw them compete in the Athenian and Isthmian Leagues, experiencing mixed fortunes and numerous managerial changes.
The late 1990s and early 2000s brought a resurgence under Dean Brennan’s management, with the club winning two league championships and securing multiple promotions. This period was highlighted by their ascent to the Southern League Premier Division in 2014 and setting club records in goal scoring and attendances.
However, the late 2010s were less stable, characterized by frequent managerial turnovers and fluctuating performances, culminating in a low 16th place finish in the National League South in the 2018/19 season. A major squad overhaul in 2019 led by Sammy Moore brought initial success but was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2020s saw further changes, including new management and the introduction of an artificial grass playing surface, amidst seasons affected by the pandemic.
