The Becks

Beckenham Town Football Club, nicknamed “The Becks,” is a non-league football club based in Beckenham, London.

Established in 1971, they currently compete in the Pitching In Isthmian League South East Division, which is part of the eighth tier of English football. The team calls Eden Park Avenue their home ground.

The club has a long history in non-league football, having competed in various leagues since the early 20th century. It played in the London League during two separate periods, followed by stints in the Aetolian League and Greater London League, before participating in national competitions like the FA Amateur Cup, FA Cup, and FA Vase. However, financial and organizational challenges led to a brief dissolution in 1969, during which it merged with Bromley FC. The club was re-formed in 1975 and joined the London Spartan League, where it achieved early success in league and cup competitions.

Throughout its history, the club has been associated with notable figures and players. Former UK Prime Minister Harold Macmillan served as a past president, and renowned middle-distance runner Sydney Wooderson was a vice president. Several ex-professionals have also played for the team, including Ray Potter, Frank Morris, and Pat Saward, while Jason Euell, a former Charlton Athletic star, wore its colours in more recent years. This legacy of notable connections highlights the club’s cultural and sporting significance within non-league football.

In terms of honours, the club won the London League Championship in 1927-28 and finished as runners-up in several competitions throughout its history. Despite challenges, it achieved notable success in cup finals, including its first Kent Senior Trophy win in 2011-12 after a decisive victory over Ashford United.
