Concord Rangers Football Club, nicknamed “The Beach Boys,” is a non-league football club based in Canvey Island, Essex.
Established in 1967, they currently compete in the Pitching In Isthmian League North Division, which is part of the eighth tier of English football. The team calls Thames Road their home ground.
Founded near Concord Beach on Canvey Island, the club quickly progressed from friendly matches to competitive football under Albert Lant’s management in 1967. The club achieved early success, winning the Essex Sunday Junior Trophy in 1979 and entering Saturday football. In 1985, they developed their own ground and clubhouse at Thames Road, thanks to significant contributions from club members including Jack Smith.
The club’s rise through the football leagues was marked by notable successes. They won the Essex Senior League Cup in 1996-1997 and the league championship in 1997-1998 under Lee Paterson. The early 2000s saw further triumphs, including another league championship in 2003-2004 with Ben Embery as manager. Club leadership saw changes, with founder Albert Lant becoming Club President in 1992.
Celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2007-2008, the team, managed by Danny Scopes and Danny Cowley, won multiple trophies and advanced to the Ryman League. After initial challenges, the Rangers found form, culminating in a successful 2012-2013 season with promotion and a league cup victory. The 2013-2014 season was highlighted by a strong performance in the Conference South and winning the Essex Senior Cup, demonstrating the club’s resilience and growth.
