Milton United Football Club, nicknamed “The Miltonians,” is a non-league football club based in Wallingford, Oxfordshire.
Established in 1909, they currently compete in the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties Premier Division North, which is part of the ninth tier of English football. The team calls Hithercroft their home ground.
Originally founded as Milton Hill in 1909, the club has a storied history within the North Berks Football League. The club achieved its first major success in 1926 and reformed in 1958 after a brief hiatus. During the 1960s, Milton United won multiple league titles, and despite a brief relegation at the end of the 1970s, they rebounded quickly. The 1980s saw further success with several league titles and notable cup runs, including being runners-up in the Berks and Bucks Intermediate Cup in 1984.
In 1989, Milton United joined the Hellenic Football League, achieving immediate success by finishing as runners-up in their first season and winning the league the following year. Despite being demoted due to inadequate facilities, they continued to fight back, securing promotion multiple times over the subsequent decades. The club moved to Milton Heights in 1998, where improvements such as floodlights and a new clubhouse facilitated their return to the Premier Division. Although they faced relegation again, they continued to demonstrate resilience and competitiveness, achieving promotion and notable performances in both league and cup competitions.
Recently, Milton United has undergone significant changes, including infrastructural improvements like new LED floodlights and pitch enhancements. Under the new management team led by Christian Lawrence, the club achieved a dramatic play-off victory to secure promotion to Step 5 football. Now preparing for a move to the Combined Counties League, Milton United is poised for a new chapter, with plans for further development, including a new clubhouse, aiming to enhance community and sporting facilities.
