Warrington Town Football Club, nicknamed “The Yellows,” is a non-league football club based in Warrington, Cheshire.
Established in 1949, they currently compete in the Vanarama National League North, which is part of the sixth tier of English football. The team calls Cantilever Park their home ground.
Warrington Town, originally formed in 1949 as Stockton Heath Albion, was renamed in 1961 and experienced early success in local leagues, highlighted by winning the Mid Cheshire League Championship and several League Cups under manager Freddie Worrall. The club moved up through the Cheshire County and North West Counties Football Leagues, reaching the FA Vase semi-finals and finals in the 1980s. The 1990s saw fluctuating fortunes, including record player sales but also relegation and demotion due to ground grading issues.
In the 21st century, Warrington Town achieved significant milestones, including winning the Second Division Trophy and reaching the FA Cup first round in 2014-15, where they beat Exeter City. The 2015-16 season was particularly successful, with the club setting records for league goals and points. Despite managerial changes, the team consistently competed for higher league positions, often reaching play-off spots. The COVID-19 pandemic caused the abandonment of two seasons, but the club remained resilient, continuing to challenge for promotion in subsequent years. In the 2022-23 season, Warrington Town finally secured promotion to the National League North, a historic achievement for the club.
