Solihull Moors Football Club, nicknamed “The Moors,” is a non-league football club based in Solihull, West Midlands.
Established in 2007, they currently compete in the Vanarama National League, which is part of the fifth tier of English football. The team calls Damson Park their home ground.
Solihull Moors Football Club, formed in 2007 from the merger of Solihull Borough and Moor Green, represents a strategic effort to sustain football in the Solihull area amid declining attendances. Solihull Borough, established in 1953, navigated financial and venue challenges, while Moor Green, founded in 1901, became homeless after a devastating arson attack in 2005. Inheriting Moor Green’s place in the Blue Square Conference North, the club initially struggled under Bob Faulkner’s management.
Despite early difficulties, Solihull Moors showed progress, particularly in the FA Cup. The club experienced a series of managerial changes, with Marcus Bignot and Tim Flowers bringing varied success, including a notable second-place finish in the National League in 2018/19. However, they missed out on promotion in the playoffs.
Disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic affected the 2019/20 season. Jimmy Shan’s tenure saw challenges due to injuries and the pandemic, leading to his departure in 2021. Mark Yates returned briefly, achieving a strong finish. Neal Ardley took over in June 2021, guiding the team to third place and another playoff run in 2021/22, but they faced a narrow defeat in the final.
