Runcorn Linnets Football Club, nicknamed “The Yellows,” is a non-league football club based in Runcorn, Cheshire.
Established in 2006, they currently compete in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Division One West, which is part of the eighth tier of English football. The team calls APEC Taxis Stadium their home ground.
The club won the Cheshire Senior Cup soon after its formation. The 1930s brought Cheshire League titles, another Senior Cup and an FA Cup third-round tie with Preston North End, led by prolific striker and future war hero Jack Search. After wartime suspension, further FA Cup successes and a league-and-cup double preceded entry to the Northern Premier League in 1969.
During the 1970s the side, managed by Stan Storton, lifted successive Cheshire Senior and NPL Cups and secured its first Northern Premier League title in 1976 before winning promotion in 1981. It won the Alliance Premier League at the first attempt, twice added the Bob Lord Trophy and reached FA Trophy finals in 1986, 1993 and 1994, but stadium damage and rebuilding costs at Canal Street led to relegation in 1996.
A stadium move to Widnes and rebrand as Runcorn FC Halton preceded insolvency; supporters formed Runcorn Linnets in 2006, playing four seasons at Witton Albion before opening the Millbank Linnets Stadium in 2010. Promotion to the Northern Premier League followed the 2017-18 North West Counties League title, and the club has since reached four play-off campaigns. After manager Antony Kay’s dismissal in January 2025, Brad Cooke became the tenth boss.
