Farsley Celtic Football Club, nicknamed “The Celt Army,” is a non-league football club based in Farsley, West Yorkshire.
Established in 1908, they currently compete in the Vanarama National League North, which is part of the sixth tier of English football. The team calls The Citadel their home ground.
Farsley Celtic FC, originally Farsley AFC, has a rich history marked by fluctuating fortunes. Established in the Leeds Amateur leagues, they gained prominence in the Yorkshire Leagues during the 1950s and 60s, with their 1974 FA Cup tie against Tranmere Rovers being a historical highlight.
The 1980s saw Farsley enter the Northern Premier League. In the 2000s, under Lee Sinnott’s management, they experienced notable successes, including winning the Unibond League Premier Division, although they faced challenges like points deduction and controversial playoff outcomes.
Financial difficulties in the late 2000s led to the club’s administration and subsequent reformation. The new club, starting in the NCEL Premier Division, quickly achieved success with a league and cup double, followed by a series of promotions and cup runs in the ensuing years.
The 2010s were characterized by a mix of successes and challenges, including promotions, cup achievements, and battles against relegation. The COVID-19 pandemic brought further disruptions, but the club managed to maintain its position in the National League North.
