City of Liverpool Football Club, nicknamed “The Purps,” is a non-league football club based in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.
Established in 2014, they currently compete in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Division One West, which is part of the eighth tier of English football. The team calls Rivacre Park their home ground.
City of Liverpool FC was founded in October 2014, officially established in May 2015 with purple as its team color. The club, structured as a Community Benefit Society, applied to join the North West Counties League for the 2016–17 season. Despite initial rejection, a successful appeal at Wembley allowed them to join the league.
In their debut 2016–17 season under manager Simon Burton, the club achieved significant success, winning two cup finals and securing promotion through the playoffs. The season also marked their first FA Cup journey, but they were eliminated in the first qualifying round. The club continued to perform well in the following season, winning another trophy and finishing fourth in the league.
The 2018–19 season saw Craig Robinson lead the club to win the NWCFL Premier Division, although they fell short in the Macron Cup final. The following season in the Northern Premier League was challenging and ended early due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Managerial changes occurred in the 2020/21 season, with Michael Ellison taking over as manager. The season was again disrupted by the pandemic but featured a strong FA Trophy run. Amidst these developments, the club changed its groundshare agreement to Rivacre Road and saw changes in its board of directors.
