Buxton Football Club, nicknamed “The Bucks,” is a non-league football club based in Buxton, Derbyshire.
Established in 1877, they currently compete in the Vanarama National League North, which is part of the sixth tier of English football. The team calls The Silverlands their home ground.
Buxton F.C. was founded in 1877 as an offshoot of a cricket club and settled at its current ground, the Silverlands, in 1884. The club played in various leagues, notably winning the Manchester League in 1931/32 and the Cheshire League after 40 years. In the post-World War Two era, Buxton F.C. had significant FA Cup runs, including reaching the third round in 1951/52, and has won the Derbyshire Senior Cup ten times.
In 1993, Buxton F.C. became a Limited Company but faced financial challenges, leading to relegations. A revival in the early 2000s under managers like Nicky Law brought success, including NCEL and UniBond First Division championships. John Reed’s management saw the team reach the UniBond Premier League play-off final and win the Derbyshire Senior Cup in 2008/09.
Recent years under Martin McIntosh’s management saw fluctuating performances, with the team often missing playoff spots due to late-season form dips. Despite promising starts and strong league and FA Cup runs, the team has struggled to secure promotion, achieving mid-table finishes in recent seasons.
