Alvechurch Football Club, nicknamed “The Church,” is a non-league football club based in Alvechurch, Worcestershire.
Established in 1929, they currently compete in the Pitching In Southern Football League Premier Central, which is part of the seventh tier of English football. The team calls Lye Meadow their home ground.
Alvechurch Football Club, founded in 1913, experienced early success in the 1920s before disbanding during the Depression and resuming in 1929. Post-World War II, the club thrived, achieving a notable “top ten” ranking in the Midlands in 1955.
Moving to Lye Meadow in 1957 proved pivotal, leading to multiple league championships, FA Amateur Cup runs, and Worcestershire Senior Cup victories in the 1960s and 1970s. The club even reached the FA Cup Third Round Proper in 1973/74.
Southern League entry in 1978/79 brought further success, including a league championship in 1980/81 and a Southern League Cup triumph in 1982/83. However, financial difficulties and relegation led to a decline in the late 1980s and early 1990s, culminating in closure in 1993.
Resurrected as Alvechurch Villa in 1994, the club regained league status and reverted to its original name in 1996. Success returned in the early 2000s, with a league and cup double in 2002/03.
Joining the Midland Football Alliance in 2003/04, Alvechurch won several cups and achieved their highest league finish since reforming in 2009/10. Further success followed in the merged Midland Football League, culminating in a Premier Division championship in 2016/17 and potential for a historic treble in the same season.
